Under normal circumstances, you call Smile Solutions Dentistry and schedule an appointment when it’s convenient for you. A dental emergency, however, is anything but normal circumstances. Let’s be honest—a dental emergency can be very frightening for anyone. Fortunately, Dr. Patel and his team are here for you. Remain calm and call the emergency dentist in West Palm Beach at (561) 530-3764. One of our staff will be able to advise you, talk you through whatever steps need to be taken until we can see you, and schedule a same-day appointment if necessary. Let’s review some of the more common dental emergencies.
Tooth Pain
One of the most frequent dental emergencies seen in our office is a toothache. You can almost tell when something is seriously wrong—the tooth pain you experience may be severe and unrelenting. If this is the case, then Dr. Patel will want to see you as soon as possible to assess the situation. Sometimes, severe pain means that you have an infected tooth and need root canal therapy to remove the infection and preserve the tooth.
Cracked or Chipped Tooth
A chipped tooth might not be an emergency. Dr. Patel can usually fix a chip with composite bonding or by simply smoothing the tooth. A cracked or fractured tooth may mean that there is internal injury to the tooth. Call us immediately to schedule an appointment. In the meantime, you can rinse your mouth with warm water, take acetaminophen if there is pain and use a cold compress to reduce any swelling.
Missing Crown or Lost Filling
If you have a missing crown or a lost filling, then the tooth is no longer protected by these restorations. The tooth may be sensitive to temperature, pressure or air. If you have the crown or filling, you may be able to keep them in place with either temporary tooth cement or denture adhesive until the emergency dentist in West Palm Beach can see you.
Knocked Out Tooth
Probably the most upsetting of all dental emergencies is a knocked out tooth. Believe it or not, we may be able to save and re-implant the tooth if it’s treated very soon after injury. Be sure to touch only the crown of the tooth. If possible, place it back in its socket and gently bite down. Otherwise, you can preserve the tooth in a sealed container filled with milk.
